“The Book on Downsizing” is a simple step-by-step guide to developing your personalized plan and creating the future you want. The main focus will be on finding a home that’s right for the next stage of your life. However, before we get to that exciting step, it’s important to take some time to explore just what rightsizing vs downsizing is and how it fits into planning your future.
Over the past 100 years, the Western world has seen unprecedented growth and rapid change that has brought much good. However, one consequence of this phenomenal prosperity is that many of us became extremely materialistic and invested great significance in the collection of Things. Over time, these Things seem to multiply on their own, and we now find ourselves drowning in a sea of stuff.
We, the Baby Boomers born between 1946 and 1964, whose unprecedented size led to being characterized as the bulge going through the system have changed the paradigms with each passing decade. And now, as our generation ages, many of us are feeling the need to change our habits of consumption and divest ourselves of many of our acquisitions. But we’re also finding that it’s not an easy thing to do.
During the past 50 years, Baby Boomers have had a phenomenal ride, a time of great prosperity, including the growth of computing as a tool to radically transform business, communications, and every aspect of our daily lives. We have experienced, accepted, and prospered from more radical change than any generation before us. Many of us have been so preoccupied with getting to this point we arrive truly unprepared and have no plan on how or where to go from here.
